Introducing the Boston Dynamics Pick System
Machine Learning Researcher
Boston Dynamics is seeking Machine Learning Researchers that are interested in building perception and adaptive control systems that improve the performance, reliability, and generalizability of robot behaviors. Well-qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a related field, and have prior work that demonstrates an ability to creatively apply modern machine learning algorithms to real-world problems. We are particularly interested in candidates with 1) experience using ML for visual perception or 2) experience applying reinforcement learning (RL) to dynamic control tasks. Masters-level candidates with strong experience will also be considered.
Day to day activities include:Control Systems Engineer
Comfortable writing and debugging C++ and Python Code
Design of relevant feature sets for data collection and training
Experience implementing and debugging ML algorithms
Familiarity with available machine learning toolkits (e.g., Tensorflow)
Experience with applications of machine learning to visual data OR experience applying modern RL algorithms to dynamic control tasks
Location: Waltham, MAType: Full TimeMin. Experience: Mid Level
At Boston Dynamics, we build robots that push the boundaries of dynamic behavior and autonomy. We are looking for talented Control Systems Engineers who are passionate about working in a multidisciplinary team to change the world through advances in robot technology. Typical duties of this position include creative development of model-based controllers for mobility and/or manipulation tasks, prototyping in simulation, and carrying out experiments on hardware. Since our company is focused on delivering robust real-world machines, we place a strong emphasis on frequent evaluation and analysis of results on hardware.
This position requires a Master's or Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering or computer science. In the case of a Master’s candidate, 3+ years of relevant experience is preferred. We expect candidates to have a strong analytic ability and the tenacity required to take ideas from initial concept to delivery on hardware. You'll do well here if you like understanding how things move and developing algorithms to make machines realize natural, robust, and useful behaviors. Strong interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills are required.
Day to day activities include:
C, C++ programming for real-time control and sensor processing
Implementing high-bandwidth feedback control in hardware
Developing simple models of complex systems
Sensing and state estimation
Qualifications desired:
Control of multi-DOF systems
Familiarity with multi-body kinematics
Dynamic simulation
Convex optimization
Path planning
